Learn more about native Texan, Rachael Watts.
I was born and raised in Greenville but almost all of northeast Texas was my stomping grounds. My passion started in 8th grade after taking a photography class where we were taught about the history of the camera, built our own cameras out of a coffee can, and even learned how to develop our own prints in a dark room. I still have all of that information and my "Pin-hole Picture Project" in a black binder in our spare bedroom. After high-school, I set my sights on getting a camera and started learning and practicing as much as I could. Most of the work that you will see in my gallery is recent. There may be one or two pictures from the very first photography workshop I attended in 2013.
Anything equine or western lifestyle related I am absolutely in love with. I enjoy photographing animals the most.
Pictured here with me is my mare, Princess. I have owned her since April of 2004 and she is one of the reasons I got started with photography. When I was graduating high school in 2010, I wanted senior pictures with my horse. At that time, Terri Cage was a prominent name in the equine photography industry. We didn't have the money for her to come all the way from Denton, TX to the farm for pictures at that time, and I thought there might be a niche here for me to grow into. However, my sights stayed focused on my education and photography got put on the back burner. In the following years, I really should've focused more on improving my photography and turning it into a full time business, but fear of failure has kept me at an 8-5. I hope that one day I can turn this passion into a lucrative business.
